Lord, the light of your love is shining

In the midst of the darkness, shining

Set us free by the truth you now bring us

Shine on me, shine on me

Fill this place with the Father's glory

As we gaze on your kingly brightness

So our faces display your likeness

Ever changing from glory to glory

Mirrored here may our lives tell your story

Fill this land with the Father's glory

Blaze, Spirit, blaze

Set our hearts on fire

GATHERING - God is with you. And also with you.

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Place your worry-stone in hand and visualize God sitting next to you as we say, God, sometimes we don't do what is right. Sometimes we forget to start from a place of agape-love. Sometimes we say and do things that are very immature, and then there are times we think it's just easier to do or say nothing at all. We are sorry God! Help us to do better. Empower us to learn from our mistakes and to forgive ourselves. Open my heart, and all our hearts to forgive those who have wronged me and may I finally … let go. Guide, empower and renew our spirits for the strength to begin in agape-love, as you asked us to do all along. Amen.

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy.

Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy.

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy.

God loves us, you and me! God forgives us and gives us a renewed song of love to sing! Receive and accept forgiveness, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit - Let us give Glory to God!

1 Glory to God, glory to God, glory in the highest!

Glory to God, glory to God, glory in the highest!

To God be glory forever! To God be glory forever!

Alleluia! Amen! Alleluia! Amen!

Alleluia! Amen! Alleluia! Amen!

Alleluia! Amen! Alleluia! Amen!

Alleluia! Amen! Alleluia! Amen!

2 Glory to God, glory to God, glory to Christ Jesus!

Glory to God, glory to God, glory to Christ Jesus!

3 Glory to God, glory to God, glory to the Spirit!

Glory to God, glory to God, glory to the Spirit!

Be seated...

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the Communion of the Spirit is with you always. And also with your spirit.

Sovereign God, love in all hearts, you call us to trust you, and you favor us with true freedom. Keep us faithful to the ways of your Son, that, leaving behind all that hinders us, we may steadfastly follow your paths, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

READING OF THE WORD - Good Morning! We now open our hearts and minds to hear God speak to us through the words of our ancient scriptures.

Come Holy Spirit.

OUR FIRST READING comes from the Christian Scriptures, the book of Galations:

Christ has set us free for freedom. Therefore, stand firm and don’t submit to the bondage of slavery again.

You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only don’t let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love. All the Law has been fulfilled in a single statement: Love your neighbor as yourself. But if you bite and devour each other, be careful that you don’t get eaten up by each other!

I say be guided by the Spirit and you won’t carry out your selfish desires. A person’s selfish desires are set against the Spirit, and the Spirit is set against one’s selfish desires. They are opposed to each other, so you shouldn’t do whatever you want to do. But if you are being led by the Spirit, you aren’t under the Law. The actions that are produced by selfish motives are obvious, since they include sexual immorality, moral corruption, doing whatever feels good, idolatry, drug use and casting spells, hate, fighting, obsession, losing your temper, competitive opposition, conflict, selfishness, group rivalry, jealousy, drunkenness, partying, and other things like that. I warn you as I have already warned you, that those who do these kinds of things won’t inherit God’s kingdom.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against things like this. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with its passions and its desires. If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit. (Galatians 5:1, 13–25 CEB)

Words of Life, Words of Love. Thanks be to God.

We will READ Psalm 16 responsively with St Michael's saying the regular verses and Bethany saying the bold verses.

1Protect me, O God, for I take ref- | uge in you;

  I have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, my good

a- | bove all other.”

2All my delight is in the godly that are | in the land,

  upon those who are noble a- | mong the people.

3But those who run after | other gods

  shall have their troubles | multiplied.

4I will not pour out drink offerings | to such gods,

  never take their names up- | on my lips. R

5O Lord, you are my portion | and my cup;

  it is you who up- | hold my lot.

6My boundaries enclose a | pleasant land;

  indeed, I have a | rich inheritance.

7I will bless the Lord who | gives me counsel;

  my heart teaches me night | after night.

8I have set the Lord al- | ways before me;

  because God is at my right hand, I shall | not be

shaken. R

9My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spir- | it rejoices;

  my body also shall | rest in hope.

10For you will not abandon me | to the grave,

  nor let your holy one | see the pit.

11You will show me the | path of life;

  in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right

hand are pleasures for- | evermore. R

GOSPEL READING - Let us rise in body or spirit for the reading of the Gospel from St. Luke the 9th Chapter.

Glory to you O Lord.

Jesus was to be taken up into heaven, he determined to go to Jerusalem. He sent messengers on ahead of him. Along the way, they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival, but the Samaritan villagers refused to welcome him because he was determined to go to Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to consume them?” But Jesus turned and spoke sternly to them, and they went on to another village.

As Jesus and his disciples traveled along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and the birds in the sky have nests, but the Human One has no place to lay his head.”

Then Jesus said to someone else, “Follow me.” He replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. But you go and spread the news of God’s kingdom.”

Someone else said to Jesus, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say good-bye to those in my house.”

Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand on the plow and looks back is fit for God’s kingdom.”

(Luke 9:51–62 CEB)

This is the Gospel of our Christ. Praise to you Lord Jesus our Christ.

ELW 798 Will You Come and Follow Me

1 "Will you come and follow me

if I but call your name?

Will you go where you don't know

and never be the same?

Will you let my love be shown,

will you let my name be known,

will you let my life be grown

in you and you in me?

5 Lord, your summons echoes true

when you but call my name.

Let me turn and follow you

and never be the same.

In your company I'll go

where your love and footsteps show.

Thus I'll move and live and grow

in you and you in me.

Rise in body or spirit as we affirm our faith, using the Nicene Creed... We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE GIVING OF OURSELVES - The giving of our offerings to God, is an act of worship. The giving of time (volunteer), talents (help others with what you like to do) and treasures (financial and/ or material support), are some of the ways we express our generosity and hospitality towards each other, and the surrounding community. Offerings can be placed in the collection basket: St Michael’s at the front - Bethany at the entrance to the chapel. Or give online at WWW.OLC.ONE and select the congregation.

Loving God, we are grateful for the gifts you give to us! You give to each of us freely without requiring anything from us. We ask you now, help us to give freely to our neighbors and to our community, being your hands and feet in the world. Using our time, talents and treasures to show everyone how much you love us and how much we love each other.

God, we now gather together around your table, with joy and gratitude, asking you to bless this bread from the earth and this fruit of the vine, becoming for us the bread and cup of new life today and the days to come . In communion with Jesus our Christ and all who have gone before us, we pray. Amen.

HOLY COMMUNION - God is with you. And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is truly right and joyful, to give thanks and praise to you, God of love and peace. You provided us with a vision of our true selves, through the life of Jesus our Christ. Jesus is our brother, our teacher, our example; he is now and always one with you, the universal Christ and source of all, and so with all of creation, with the birds chirping, the leaves rustling, with the angels and our ancestors, and in communion with of all living, within all times and places, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of our God.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Holy God, you are holy, you are God.

The universe declares your praise: beyond the stars; beneath the sea; within each cell; with every breath.

We praise you, O God.

Generations bless your faithfulness: through the water; by night and day; across the wilderness; out of exile; into the future.

We bless you, O God.

We give you thanks for your dear Son: at the heart of human life; near to those who suffer; beside the sinner; among the poor; with us now.

We thank you, O God.

Remembering his love for us on the way, at the table, and to the end, we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ had died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Let us pray as Jesus taught us, in the words most comfortable for you.

Lifting arms/hands in Orans position:

On the night Jesus was betrayed, he gathered with his disciples, his friends, and his family, around the table, He took bread, (all lifting the bread) gave thanks and blessed it +, he broke it and gave it his disciples saying; Take and eat, this is my body broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Come Holy Spirit, bless this bread and open us to receive the body of Jesus Christ.

This IS the body of Christ, given for you.

All partake of the bread.

In the same way he took the cup (all lifting the cup) He gave thanks and blessed it +, Giving it to his disciples saying; Take and drink, this is the new covenant in my blood Shed for you and all people for the forgiveness of sins, Do this in remembrance of me. Come Holy Spirit, bless this fruit of the vine and open us to receive the blood of Jesus Christ. This IS the blood of Christ shed for you.

All partake of the cup.

The body and blood of Jesus, strengthen you and keep you always in his grace.

At last, Lord, your word of promise fulfilling,

you let your servant go forth in freedom and peace.

With my own eyes I have seen the salvation

you have prepared in the sight of all the peoples:

a light that will reveal you to the nations,

and the glory of your people Israel.

BLESSING FOR OUR JOURNEY – Turn to one another and say…

May God bless you and protect you.

May God smile on you and be gracious to you.

May God show you favor and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26 NLT)

Beloved, receive your blessing from God:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son +, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

ELW 859 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the God of creation!

My heart is longing to offer up sweet adoration.

Melody make; dulcimer, harp, now awake.

Sound forth your praise, ev'ry nation.

2 Praise the Almighty, o'er all life so wondrously reigning,

and, as on wings of an eagle, uplifting, sustaining.

Have you not seen? All that is needful has been

sent by God's gracious ordaining.

3 Praise the Almighty, who prospers your work and defends you;

see from the heavens the showers of mercy God sends you.

Ponder anew what the Almighty can do;

Infinite Love here befriends you.

4 Praise the Almighty! In wonder my spirit is soaring!

All that has life and breath, come now with praises outpouring.

Let the amen sound from God's people again,

gladly forever adoring.

WE, together are one. WE are part of the fabric of the universal Christ.

Go from this space with a song in your heart and love from your very being.

We will carry God’s light to our neighbors, and we ask God to help us. Amen.
